Pinhole Photos

I took some pinhole photos today at Chicago’s Bohemian National Cemetery. In lieu of a lens, I mounted a pinhole on my Nikon D70 digital camera. The immediate feedback of the digital is a much different experience than making pinhole images on film. Some oblique sunlight striking the hole causes a prismatic effect, as it does on film:

Our New Policy

Mr. Thomas M. Patrick
Chief Executive Officer
Peoples Energy
130 East Randolph Drive
Chicago, IL 60601

May 10, 2006

Dear Mr. Patrick,

We recently received a message on our telephone answering machine from a representative of your company inquiring about a putative past due balance. I regret to inform you we have no record of receipt of any notification regarding this balance. Perhaps our recent letter (via Certified Mail, March 11, 2006) to your company outlining our new policy regarding vendor identification designations has escaped your notice, and that this is the reason we cannot locate any recent correspondence relating to your vendor account with us.

To reiterate the substance of that letter, in order to serve you in a more organized and expeditious manner, Peoples Energy - along with all of our other vendors — has been issued a unique vendor identification designation. This allows us to deal with all your correspondence — including invoices, notifications and inquiries — with a much greater degree of alacrity than was previously possible.

The vendor identification designation assigned to Peoples Energy is:

ยท CORPCRIM-448F92K9239A4L9F666EM34I8995

It consists of an alphabetic vendor type field (CORPCRIM) and an appended alphanumeric designation that uniquely identifies your company among our many CORPCRIM vendors. We must insist that all of your correspondence with us reference this unique identifier. Your attention to this matter will be greatly appreciated.

On an unrelated note, we were pleased to hear that with only a little coercion from the Citizen’s Utility Board, the City of Chicago and the Illinois Attorney General, we will be receiving a windfall $100.00 rebate from Peoples Energy. And to think that it has only been three short years since CUB uncovered evidence that Peoples Energy used an illegal, profit-sharing deal with the Enron Corporation to overcharge consumers during the winter of 2000-2001, when gas prices skyrocketed. Way to go, Mr. Patrick! What a fitting conclusion to your tenure as C.E.O. as you approach your announced retirement. With this sort of public accountability, perhaps you should consider changing the name of the company to People’s Energy. If you do, however, please keep in mind that you will need to inform us so that we can issue you a new CORPCRIM identification designation.

Best regards,
